portrait emulation
Chris Crisman is known globally as a commercial photographer. Crisman was born and raised in Titusville, Pennsylvania. When he was older, Chris Crisman attended the University of Pennsylvania with the dream of becoming a doctor. 5 years later, however, he left Penn as a photographer instead. Crisman has "a desire to photograph passionate people", he quotes. Currently, Crisman has clients that include AOL, Wells Fargo, The American Red Cross, Allstate, etc. He has also photographed celebrities such as Richard Branson, Jane Goodall, and Al Gore. His work varies from portraits and landscapes, to even the lifestyles of his many models.
Crisman's theme of natural settings, emotion and how he captures the lifestyles of his models pulled me towards choosing one of his photos to emulate. All of his photos feel very original and unique in their own way since most of them are taken in unusual environments. In order to emulate his photo above, I had to first look for a similar setting that had long grass and a large depth of field. Although I got a similar setting with tall grass, it was a partly cloudy outside so I was not able to get that consistent blue sky-setting. Chris Crisman's photo was taken with a fast shutter speed and was angled vertically. His point of interest is clear, which is the woman with the glowing white sphere. The sphere in Crisman's photo was clearly added during later editing, so I also had to digitally add it in my photo also. When someone looks at his composition, their eyes are lead throughout the piece since the sky is so rich in color and the sphere is also interesting to look at. The mood this photo portrays is hope or determination just by the expression on the woman's face and even on my sister's face in my version of the picture. If I could change anything about the photo, it would be to make the sky a darker blue like the original photo.
