term 1
night photography
reflection:
For the Night Photography assignment I used a series of photos of scenes that I manipulated into darker photos. Photo 1 was taken around 7 o'clock at night just after the sunlight was gone for the day. This picture was taken with a regular iPhone camera; with the HDR setting enabled. To capture the scene, I titled the camera upward facing towards the sky. When doing this, I kept the shining white light in the image and it created smaller specs of light (the little green and blue specks seen above). This made the picture visually stronger in my opinion.
Photo 2 was taken with an iPhone also. Pictured above is a dilapidated building in my neighbor's yard. However, this picture was instead taken during the daytime. In order to get a night-time image, I changed it to black and white using Photoshop. In Photoshop, I edited the sky and used a brush tool over the white parts. I also used the lasso tool to delete the words on the 'Private Property' sign because I felt like it took too much focus from the rest of the image. When taking the image, I purposely stood at a position where I got the sign in the foreground to force the viewer to read and then the building in the background.
Finally, Photo 3 was also taken during the day in the afternoon. In Photoshop, I again used the black and white layer on the photo and then cropped out the right part of the image and excluded a large chunk of the small tree with the branches. This photo is another version of the building but at another side facing in on the entrance. To take this photo I faced the camera head-on towards the door and made sure to include the shingles of the building. In my opinion, this photo successfully portrays a nighttime image and the creepiness night can bring to our imaginations.
