term 1
capturing emotion
REFLECTION:
For my Capturing Emotion assignment, the photos I took share several emotions a viewer could interpret. The first photo (Photo 1) captured the simple emotion of happiness. My sister is smiling and her body stance is calm; showing that she is content and happy. Since she is also wearing the tennis racket bag, it symbolizes that she is happy when she is playing sports. Photo 1 was also converted to black and white, which made the picture more focused and visually-stronger, in my opinion. I used levels to enhance the focal point (my sister) and deepen the darkness of the background.
Photo 2 continued the emotion of being happy and content. However, the model is an animal instead. I think this photo is strong because it could represent a lot of emotions that an animal has. My dog's look in this photo could mean that he is happy, in a playful mood or that he is hungry (because his teeth are out). When I saw my dog's face I knew I had to take the chance and snap a photo. Also, the image is taken directly from above in direct contact with my dog's face, which gives an unusual view. For the black and white version of this photo, I simply used the adjustment setting and played with levels, but kept the original settings of the photo for the most part.
The final image of this assignment (Photo 3) included my dog again. When trying to complete this assignment, I realized that capturing emotion was easier to get from an animal when trying to take a photo of it (because animals are always in their natural state). Photo 3 again included my dog, however this time he is instead tired and sleepy. I captured the picture as he was yawning to show this emotion of tiredness. Other symbols that could show this include the blanket wrapped around him and since he is sitting on a couch. The black and white version of the picture I edited in order to enhance the dog and darken the background so all of the focus is on him.
