2014-15 portfolio
Image from Personal Narrative: This photo includes compositional elements such as point of view (which is looking up towards sky and backboard) and shape (the net and ball-catcher). Outside lighting made this picture appear very light and filled with cool colors; also, the focus is clearly on the net. This image has an interesting point of view and could resemble that of a basketball player ready to make a basket.
Photo from Photo Essay: Compositionally, this photo includes a large depth of field, background (the tree and treeline behind it), and a large space (the field is mostly empty). Technically, the photo's focus is that of the one tree in the field. Lighting in this photo is very low because of cloudy weather conditions and lack of natural sunlight. The point of view of this photo is of a person approaching the tree, but still very far from it. The mood from this photo could be interpreted as dark and dreary (from the black clouds overhead and the tree looking lonely in the field).
Image from Photo Essay: This photo includes leading lines (the branches), repetition of shapes (the leaves), texture (rough surface of the branches), distance (formed by blur behind branches). Technical aspects include major focus on the branches and blurring (or less attention) on the rest of the tree) and natural lighting (provided by sun). Artistically, an interesting point of view is formed (very close-up to tree). The sense of mood in this photo could resemble a person who is interested in exploring.
Photo from Summer 2014: This image (and the next image) were both taken during the summer season. Compositonally, these photos include large depths of field, foreground (the sand and grass) middleground (the man in img 1; paddleboat in img 2) and background (the tree line and sky). This photo also includes a reflection (of the trees and sky in the river), point of view (viewer is standing away from shoreline, looking out). Technically, the lighting in this photo was created by the sun and a large depth of field was used. Artistically, this photo is strong in giving off nature's beauty during the summer months. An interest of nature is the main message overall.
(description for this picture is on previous image)
Photo from Fall 2014: Includes leading lines (plots of crops and tree line), space (large depth of field), foreground, middleground and background, point of view (on-looking the farm). An interesting point of view was captured, looking out towards a big piece of agriculture.
Photo from Capturing Color: Out of all the photos I selected for my portfolio, this one is very different since the rest focused on nature and landscapes. Compositionally, leading lines (on the blanket), pattern (of the colors), point of view (on the bed, facing my dog) are some of the elements used. A shallow depth of field (close to dog) and lighting (using the flash on phone) are technical aspects that were used. Artistically, the ball besides the dog signals a dog's constant readiness to play, also humor could be interpreted also since he has the ball next to him; but decides to lay on the bed anyway.
Photo from Horror Story: This photo is also very different from the others. Compostionally, it includes aspects such as line (on the boarded up window and shingles), shape (shingles and wooden frames), point of view (front view of run down house), and black and white filter. Technically, black and white filter was added in Photoshop along with the noise feature to give the image a grainy-effect. Finally, the photo gives off a creepy tone since it is very gritty and is very close-up to the old building
Photo from Found Still Life: This photo was taken at an art class I occasionally go to outside of school. This photo's composition mainly includes leading lines (the notepad, wood grains in table), rhythm (yellow colors on table and pastels), point of view (taken halfway over drawing pad), and also includes foreground (sharper in focus) and background (which is grainier). Technical aspects include low-lighting, and a focused lens on the foreground. This picture has a darker feel to it (because of the lighting) and it also resembles the meaning of art through the materials and paper that is seen on the table.
