This photo was taken on an iPhone camera in New York while traveling last summer. When a viewer looks at the photo, they get a sense of space and depth, as the beams and the cables of the bridge get smaller and smaller in the background of the image, and there is a clear leading line on the road taking you to the back of the image. The dashboard of the car serves as the foreground of this photo, the cars closer to the viewer serve as the middle ground, and the arc of the bridge is the background. Lines are repeated throughout the composition as well many shapes like the space between the beams and the cables. A small aperture setting and a medium-range ISO were used since the environment is around late afternoon time. This bridge in this photo conveys a sense of journey or traveling to get somewhere else.
This photo is visually interesting since there are multiple focal points. At first glance, a viewer might look at the moving clouds in the sky, but might also notice the silhouettes of road signs in the foreground, and bright green lights in the background. This is another one of my photos that was taken while in a moving vehicle. In order to capture this shot, I used a high ISO setting since it is close to dark when the photo was taken. The sky creates a rhythm of colors and various shapes that make this photo visually dynamic. Originally, I was going to crop out the bottom of the photo to just focus on the sky. However, I think the street and the things around it add more depth and variety to the photo, as well as the angle of the shot. The colors in this photo show the natural colors the sun creates when setting.
Out of the 6 photos I have selected, this photo has the most obvious sense of texture to it. Not only does the tree trunk set up texture, but it also provides lines, shapes and repetition. This photo was taken on a cloudy day, but the environment still provided enough light so I did not have to use a high ISO which would've made the photo grainier. I also focused on the center of the image which is why the center appears the clearest out of the rest of the photo. You can see light coming from the left side of the image, and the tree gets darker as your eyes move from left to right. This simple composition forces you to notice the simple, but compelling design of nature.
This image was taken at McCoy Stadium during a Paw Sox game. A low ISO setting and fast shutter speed were used when I took this photo. Space is displayed as the viewer's eye travels across the field to the other side of the stadium. The pitcher's mound serves as the middle ground and the promotional signs in the distance serve as the visible background. Not only are a variety of colors shown on the signs and stadium, but the colors of the clothing of the people sitting in the stands too. The painted lines on the baseball field serve as leading lines. Finally, the clouds above create more shapes and depth as well. I selected this photo because it shows an American past time - watching baseball on a summer afternoon.
A low point of view of a large field and some houses located behind Swansea Beach are displayed in this photo, which was taken in the summer. The lines of the grass in the foreground set up rhythm and the frames of the houses in the background serve as shapes. Since it was a partly cloudy day a medium-range ISO setting was required. It's visible that there's a large distance and space between the grass in the foreground. I selected this photo because the scale is altered (the grass appears larger than the houses in the background)
The photo above was taken during the Painting with Light assignment. The photo has a unique wave of colors and lines. It gives the illusion of space. To get the picture to appear the way it does, lights and objects were selected to create a dynamic photo filled with colors and shapes. After the objects were selected, my partner and I set our Nikon d3100 camera to a slow shutter speed so it could capture the many movements each partner was creating. We did things like spinning Christmas lights in circles and back and forth to get this final image. I selected this picture because I liked how a simple task of spinning lights could create such a visually interesting composition.
